Harnessing the power of social media: transforming my business

By Brittany Bohacik as seen in Woman to Woman

In today's digital age, social media has become an indispensable tool for businesses of all sizes. For me, as a hairstylist, content creator, and hair educator for milkshake® hair, social media has revolutionized the way I connect with clients, market my services, and grow my brand. See how I’ve used social media for my business and what could work for yours.

Connecting with Clients

One of the most significant impacts of social media on my business has been the ability to connect with clients on a personal level. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook allow me to showcase my work, share my knowledge, and engage with clients in real-time. Posting photos and videos of my latest styles, hair tutorials, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into my workday has created a sense of community and trust. Clients feel more connected and are more likely to book appointments and recommend my services to others.

Marketing and Promotion

Social media has also transformed the way I market my business. Traditional advertising methods can be expensive and often reach a limited audience. In contrast, social media allows me to reach a broader audience with targeted advertising and organic posts. For example, posting a reel with the viral Kylie Jenner voice-over 'I just want the best for you' while featuring myself holding milk_shake® hair products not only highlights the products but also adds a fun and relatable element to my content. This type of content is highly shareable, increasing visibility and attracting new clients.

Building My Brand

As a content creator, social media provides a platform to showcase my creativity and expertise. By consistently posting high-quality content, I’ve been able to build a recognizable brand that resonates with my target audience. Whether it’s sharing the latest trends in hair styling, offering tips for maintaining healthy hair, or promoting new products like the deep detox shampoo from Milkshake, my social media presence reflects my passion and dedication to the industry. This has led to collaborations with other brands and opportunities to mentor other stylists and salon owners.

Educating and Inspiring

Social media is not just about self-promotion; it’s also a powerful tool for education. As a hair educator, I use platforms like Instagram and YouTube to share tutorials, host live Q&A sessions, and provide valuable insights into the hair industry. This not only helps my clients but also supports fellow stylists looking to improve their skills. For instance, my recent presentation at Blondies salon and spa in Columbus, Indiana, on creating great content for salons and boutiques was a huge success. Participants left feeling inspired and equipped with new strategies to enhance their own social media presence.

Fostering Community

One of the most rewarding aspects of social media is the sense of community it fosters. Over the years, I’ve seen how social media can bring people together, turning strangers into friends. This was particularly evident during my 'snap, share, and edit' event, where participants bonded over their shared passion for social media and learned from each other’s experiences. Highlighting these positive interactions helps to change the negative stigma around social media and influencers, showcasing the supportive and collaborative nature of the online community.

Bringing It Home

Social media has undeniably changed the landscape of my business. It has provided a platform to connect with clients, market my services, build my brand, educate others, and foster a sense of community. As I continue to navigate the ever-evolving world of social media, I remain committed to leveraging its power to grow my business and inspire others in the industry. Whether you're a seasoned stylist or just starting, embracing social media can open up a world of opportunities and transform your business.
